Dex
Matching Mechanics to Career Intelligent

Working with AI (Claude, Figma Make, Loveable and Chat GPT) Rapid concept exploration developed as part of an interview challenge.

Dex is an AI-powered recruiter designed to connect exceptional engineers with high-quality tech companies through conversation rather than traditional job listings.

This project was a product design take-home case study completed as part of an interview process, exploring how Dex could improve its onboarding, AI conversation, and job matching experience.

The Challenge
Review Dex’s current product journey, identify the root cause of funnel drop-offs, and propose both immediate UX improvements and a future product vision.

The task required unpacking behavioural data, interpreting user friction, and demonstrating how the product could evolve into.

The Problem Definition
Through a rapid audit of the onboarding flow, AI conversation, and job match experience, three key challenges emerged:

Trust before proof
Users are asked to commit to an AI interview before clearly seeing the value of Dex’s intelligence.

Cognitive load in the AI conversation
The AI call captures rich signals but requires sustained effort, which can feel demanding without clear guidance or feedback.

Invisible intelligence
Job matches are delivered as results, but the reasoning behind them remains opaque, limiting trust and perceived value.

This trust gap appears early in the journey, particularly between sign-up and the AI call, where many users hesitate to proceed.

Future Vision
Beyond improving the current flow, the opportunity is to reposition Dex from a recruiter into a career intelligence platform.

Instead of simply matching jobs, Dex could help engineers understand:
  • where they stand in the market
  • how their skills translate across roles
  • which opportunities align with their long-term trajectory

Matching becomes the entry point. Career insight becomes the product, exploring how AI can move beyond job matching to become a true career intelligence system, helping engineers navigate opportunities aligned with their trajectory.
